Sonowal assures employees
Guwahati: Assam Secretariat Services' Association on Tuesday said chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has assured them to look into the incident of alleged misbehaviour and suspension of one of their members by education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya last week.
According to the association's general secretary Partha Hazarika, Sonowal's assurance came when a delegation met him on Monday. A member of the association said Sonowal had promised them "positive and fruitful" action within seven days.
On Monday, the association decided in a meeting that the employees of Assam secretariat would wear black badges on July 19 as a protest against Bhattacharya's alleged misbehaviour against senior administrative assistant of the elementary education department Chandan Kakoti and his subsequent suspension on Bhattacharya's instructions. "We informed the chief minister in a memorandum on Tuesday that we have temporarily withdrawn the July 19 protest programme. We hope the chief minister's intervention will help maintain cordial relations," a member said.
