Singer biopic out on Friday

A biopic on famous folk singer Pratima Baruah Pandey will be released on Friday.

Dhubri: A biopic on famous folk singer Pratima Baruah Pandey will be released on Friday.

Sonar Baran Pakhi (The Golden Wing), directed by Bobby Sarma Barua, chronicles the life of the Padmashree awardee and her love for folk music, as well as her association with legends like Bhupen Hazarika.

Barua said the biopic has won accolades in international film festivals. It has won the Grand Jury Prize for the Best Feature Film in the 15th Indian Film Festival held at Los Angeles and the Audience Choice Award at the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival.

Barua and actress Pratima Bora, who plays the lead role, arrived in Gauripur on Monday to seek the people's support.

During a news conference at Gauripur public library, Barua said the 86-minute movie is produced by Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Ltd and BB Entertainment Private Ltd. It will release in 17 cinemas of the state on Friday.

Pratima Bora said, "It was a challenge to play the singer's character."

The film's budget was Rs 30 lakh. It was filmed in different locations like Gauripur, Dhubri, Manash and Calcutta.
