Shillong, April 20: High-security registration plates in Meghalaya will now be cheaper after the state government informed the high court today that a proposal for reduction in prices of registration plates had been accepted.

Meghalaya High Court is adjudicating a public interest litigation (PIL) filed in relation to the rates of the registration plates.

Today, during a hearing before a division bench of Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Ved Prakash Vaish, additional senior government advocate K. Khan submitted that the offer made by the contractor for some reduction in costs of high-security registration plates had been considered and accepted by the state government today.

"It goes without saying that with such an offer having been accepted by the government of Meghalaya, the rates for 'high-security registration plates' shall stand reduced with immediate effect," the court stated in its order.

The court will again hear the matter on June 2 as the petitioner had sought time to make further submissions in the case.
