Silchar, June 20: Assam education and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured the state’s Sarva Shiksha Aviyan (SSA) teachers, numbering about 50,000, that they would soon get the same salary as their counterparts in the government and pro-vincialised primary-level schools.
Addressing a rally where 3,382 teachers were given appointment letters, the minister said “this clean and transparent” system of teacher recruitment for the past three years has marked new chapter in the state’s education scenario, which he alleged was sullied by “corruption and nepotism”.
Sarma then left by an Air India flight to Calcutta — his stop on the way to New Delhi — on an urgent summon by the party high command.
