Shillong, Jan. 10: Meghalaya governor Krishan Kant Paul has approved the amendment rules related to delimiting of constituencies in Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils.
Each of the councils has 29 constituencies and provision for a nominated member.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the state cabinet had given its nod to realignment of constituencies in the two councils. Last evening, Paul gave his approval to the cabinet nod, paving the way for polls to be held under delimited constituencies, sources said.
The district council affairs department has intimated the councils and the deputy commissioners about Paul’s approval, the sources said. The deputy commissioners will now prepare the electoral rolls according to the realigned constituencies.
The cabinet had extended the tenure of KHADC and JHADC by 15 days and of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council by six months. Polls to KHADC and JHADC will be held on February 24 and coun-ting of votes on February 27.
