Guwahati: Assam labour minister Pallab Lochan Das on Tuesday launched a facility here to help tea garden workers of the state claim their provident funds online.

Das told reporters that the facility would help tea garden workers to get their provident funds quickly and with ease after retirement. It will also enable the workers to register their complaints regarding provident funds and check PF status. The PF will be directly credited into the accounts of the beneficiaries.

Das said no garden in the state has so far refused to give provident funds to their workers.

The Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organisation, a state government initiative, manages the provident fund of the tea garden workers. Das said the organisation has taken a few steps for the benefit of the workers.

Against Rs 563.36 crore collected and due as PF contribution in the year 2016-17, Rs 482.44 crore has been remitted to the members or nominees as benefits on account of provident fund, pension or insurance claim, he said.

"The organisation has enhanced the pension benefit from seven years to 10 years with a minimum pension of Rs 500 monthly, enhanced family pension from minimum Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 and enhanced benefit under Deposit Link Insurance Scheme from Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000," Das said.
