Guwahati, Feb. 17: National Register of Citizens (NRC) coordinator for Assam Prateek Hajela today told the Supreme Court that they have completed 67 per cent of the verification of applications that people filed for updating the NRC in Assam.

Hajela told this to a two-judge bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice N. Fali Nariman during the hearing of a case filed by social organisation Assam Public Works (APW).

Hajela also told the court about the poor performance of one deputy commissioner and other administrative problems. The court has asked him to write to the Registrar General of India regarding all the administrative problems.

On the other hand, the advocate from Election Commission of India requested the court to transfer# 15 subdivisional officers and 42 assistant officers saying there had been various complaints against them and that they had completed three years in one place.

The court asked the advocate to submit a sealed letter with all the issues, reasons for the transfer and the complaints as soon as possible. The court said it would take a decision after going through the documents.

APW president Abhijeet Sharma said they were happy that the court was monitoring the NRC update.

He expressed hope that the NRC department would be stricter with the issue# of fake documents.
