Rs 418 cr for farm projects

The Union ministry of agriculture has fixed an outlay of Rs 418 crore for various new agricultural development projects in the region during the fiscal 2006-07.

The new projects aim at improving the standard of agricultural activities by adopting the latest technology.


Employees of the Meghalaya Mineral Development Corporation Ltd have urged chief minister D.D. Lapang to arrange placement of the corporation staff in any government department.

Electricity Act

Manipur power minister Gaikhangam Gangmei said in the Assembly the state government was planning to introduce the Manipur Electricity Act, 2003, in the state to improve power supply.


Police arrested Paresh Deka on Tuesday in connection with the suspected abduction of chief engineer of the public works department?s National Highway division Suren Das from his Chandmari residence in Guwahati.

Youth camp

A youth adventure exchange camp will be held in Sikkim from April 14 to 17. The main objective of the camp will be to educate the youth in the fields of adventure and environment.

Exams delayed

The Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University at Debargaon has drawn flak following the late arrival of teachers without question papers that delayed the ongoing third semester examination for more than one-and-a-half hours on Saturday.

Air show

Assam Rifles recently organised an air show in Mizoram to motivate the youth to join the Indian armed forces.


The 35th National Safety Day was celebrated recently at Nagaon Paper Mill in Assam.


A seven-day North East Kids Festival will be organised at the district library auditorium and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati from April 28.
