Malaria toll rises

Agartala, June 28 (PTI): The death toll from malaria in Tripura has risen to 52, state health minister Badal Chowdhury said today. Two more deaths were reported from Kanchanpur sub-division in Norh Tripura district yesterday, he said. “At least 8,984 patients underwent blood tests across the state yesterday, of which 1,674 were diagnosed with the disease,” Chowdhury said.


Jorhat: Four public toilets were opened at Jorhat court on Saturday by district chief judicial magistrate Darak Ullah.


Jorhat: Several areas of Teok and National Highway 37 in Jorhat district have been inundated after the Teok river swelled on Friday night.

Two held

Dibrugarh: Police on Saturday arrested two persons for giving illegal permits to commercial vehicles. The arrested duo are Utpal Gogoi, motor vehicles inspector of Morigaon district, and Udayan Gogoi, leader of Dibrugarh district unit of the AJYCP and president of Three Wheelers Association.

Exam trouble

Dhubri: Moinul Haque Pradhani, who was appearing in the second semester exams at Gauripur PB College in Dhubri district on Saturday, fled with the answer script during the last hour of the exam. Principal G.K. Das said if Haque did not submit the answer script, an FIR would be lodged against him.

Road mishap

Dhubri: Rezaul Sheikh, 21, died when the motorcycle he was riding overturned on Dhubri-Kachugaon Road under Tamarhat police station on Friday night. Sheikh was shifted to Dhubri civil hospital where he succumbed to injuries, police said.
