Liquor seized

• Silchar, May 17: Altogether 650 bottles of illegal foreign liquor were seized from Salganga and Kumbha in Cachar district in Assam last night. Two persons, Sandeep Suklabaidya and Rabi Karmakar, were arrested.

Hotel sealed

• Dhemaji: The Majuli district administration in Assam sealed Pulu restaurant on Bangaon- Kamalabari Road on Wednesday on charges of misbehaviour and charging R. Alagumani, a tourist from Tamil Nadu, exorbitantly. The excess amount was refunded to Alagumani.

• Guwahati: The Minority department of the AICC appointed Rejaul Karim Laskar as its observer for poll-bound Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram.

Felicitation

• Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu sent a congratulatory message to Anshu Jamsenpa for successfully climbing the world's highest peak for the fourth time on Tuesday. Khandu also inspected the construction of the convention hall at Indira Gandhi Park and set a December deadline for its completion.

• Guwahati: Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner M. Angamuthu on Wednesday ordered magisterial inquiries into the drowning of two children here at Khanapara on April 18, death of a D-voter at GMCH on March 1 and death of a juvenile on February 6 after being allegedly beaten up by police here in Bharalumukh.

• Guwahati: All Assam Goriya Moriya Yuva Chatra Parishad on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal seeking an inquiry into alleged corruption by officials of the Assam Minority Development Board.

• Guwahati: A memorial service and seminar was held on the occasion of the 22nd death anniversary of former journalist Parag Kumar Das here today. Das was killed by gunmen at Rajgarh Road here in 1996.
