New look for Bordoloi Trophy

The Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament is all set to wear a new look in its 64th edition at Nehru Stadium here from September 18 to October 1.  Hosts Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) has engaged its affiliated club Guwahati FC to host the annual event in association with the state government. “The government will sponsor the prize money of Rs 20 lakh and extend other logistic support to the revival of the tournament,” sports minister Naba Doley said today. “The prize money has been increased in order to attract quality teams. We are determined to restore the lost glory of the tournament and bring back crowds to the stadium,” Guwahati FC managing director Sanjive Narain said.  He said seven of the eight participating teams have already been finalised and the eighth could be Bengaluru FC, Aizawl FC, Flamingoes or one from Thailand. The others are Abahani Ltd (Dhaka), Three Star FC (Kathmandu), East Bengal, Shillong Lajong FC, Sikkim United FC, Oil India FC and the GSA Super League champions.
