Guwahati, June 26: The NDFB (S) today formally announced constitution of its national council and appointment of B. Saoraigwra as its new president.

Though the national council was formed at the outfit's general assembly on April 14 and 15 after dissolving its interim national council, it was formally announced today through a statement emailed to the media.

Saoraigwra, who was the general secretary in the interim council, was made president by replacing I.K. Songbijit. Tthere was no mention of Songbijit in the statement.

Security sources claimed that Songbijit has been removed from the president's post owing to differences between him and other top leaders of the outfit, particularly G. Bidai, over the massacre of Adivasis on December 23 last year. Bidai, who was the deputy chief of the outfit's armed wing Boroland Army, has been elevated to the post of vice-president.

Security sources said the carnage was carried out at the direction of Bidai without the consent of Songbijit, which created a rift between them.

In the new council, B.R. Ferrenga was appointed general secretary, D. Rebgon home secretary, N.E. Esara foreign secretary, I. Sulung publicity secretary and B. Dwmwilu finance secretary.
