Shillong: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday said six Independent MLAs had hinted at joining the Congress ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls.

Mukul said: "Five Independent MLAs from Garo hills and an MLA from Khasi hills regions have indicated their interest to join the Congress."

His statement came after two Independent MLAs, Robinus Syngkon and Rophul Marak, who were supporting the ruling Congress, withdrew their support from the party on November 16 and November 29 respectively. PTI
