Tezpur: Parci Ronfar, a most wanted poacher, has been arrested from Natun Danga under Jakhalabanda police station in Nagaon district on Thursday.

Sources said Ronfar, 45, had been involved in several rhino-poaching cases in Kaziranga National Park. He was the mastermind behind several poaching incidents and used to help his Manipuri counterparts kill rhinos inside the park, a source said.

Officer-in-charge of Jakhalabandha police station Deben Borah said Ronfar had been arrested twice earlier. He used to organise other groups near the Karbi Anglong side of the park.

Recently, Ronfar was involved in preparing other poaching groups.

The police have recovered one .315 rifle and 18 rounds of live ammunition which were kept hidden under Anjukpani police station area of Karbi Anglong district, Borah added. Ronfar hails from Kurna village under Dokmoka police station of the district and was arrested during a joint operation by Jakhalabandha police and the special task force.

Kaziranga National Park has witnessed three rhino poaching incidents this year.
