Aizawl: Mizo National Front (MNF) party chief Zoramthanga has said his party would not forge any pre-poll alliance but fight the state Assembly elections alone.
Addressing a joint news conference of the East and West blocks of MNF Hrangturzo in North Vanlaiphai village in Serchhip district on Thursday, Zoramthanga denied the rumours about the MNF forming an alliance with the BJP and said, "We are neither linked with the BJP nor are we going to force pre-poll electoral alliance with any party. We will go it alone in the Assembly elections."
He said the MNF is different from the BJP in its ideologies and propaganda.
The MNF is part of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), which was formed to make the Northeast a Congress-free region.
The former Mizoram chief minister also said they had earlier forged a pre-poll alliance with two regional parties - Zoram National Party (ZNP), led by Lalduhoma and Mizoram People's Conference (MPC), led by Lalhmangaiha Sailo.
"We have learnt the futility of forging an electoral alliance with other parties. So, we are going to contest the Assembly elections alone as we have already tasted the fruits of being alone," he said.
The MNF had won the general election to Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) in 2015 by sweeping 11 out of 19 seats.
He said the MNF, if it comes to power, would give priority to development of the state and bringing sustainable development to the people.
"If we come to power, we will exploit our natural resources and assist each individual household to make financial gain of Rs 5 to Rs 15 lakh in a year through socio-economic development policy (SEDP)," he said.
Taking a dig at the Congress, Zoramthanga said, "The Mizoram Congress would also be uprooted in the coming Assembly elections, I am doubtful of it winning even 10 out of 40 seats in the Assembly."
