Aizawl: President Ram Nath Kovind, on his first visit to Mizoram, said the state is a role model for the world in terms of peaceful resolution of political disputes.
"The Mizo Accord of 1986 has been honoured by all sides, and an insurgency situation ended with all stakeholders agreeing to work peacefully for the greater common good of the state and its people. This is a miracle of our times. It gives us an insight into Mizo society - a society of honourable men and women," Kovind said after inaugurating housing complexes for economically weaker sections under BSUP (basic services to urban poor) schemes at the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday. The total cost of this project is Rs 91.01 crore with 1,096 dwelling units coming up in four locations of the state.
Kovind said the country has a lot of hope in the young people of Mizoram as they will build Mizoram's future and India's future. "And they are the risk-takers, the entrepreneurs and job creators who will shape our destiny," he said.
Kovind will meet prominent citizens and NGOs in Mizoram on Thursday and also address a special session of the Mizoram Assembly. The President will leave Mizoram for Nagaland in the evening the same day.
