Aizawl: All Mizoram civil society organizations have warmly welcomed the quadripartite agreement to repatriate Bru families from Tripura to Mizoram.

Mizoram NGO Co-ordination Committee, an umbrella organisations of all major civil society and student bodies in the state like Central YMA, Mizo Upa Pawl or Mizo Elders' Association, Mizo Hmeichhia Insuihkhawm Pawl or Mizoram Women's Association, Mizo Zirlai Pawl or Mizo Students Federation and Mizo Students' Union on Thursday held a meeting at Central YMA office at Tuikhuahtlang here to deliberate on the upcoming Bru repatriation.

The meeting warmly welcomed the Centre's move to repatriate the displaced Bru families from Tripura.

NGO Co-ordination Committee chairman and CYMA president Vanlalruata said they strongly welcome the Bru back to their homeland.

He said that all genuine Bru families of Mizoram and their descendants, who enrolled in 1995 Mizoram electoral rolls, should return to Mizoram as per the agreement. "We are happy that an agreement could be reached to finally repatriate the displaced Bru families from Tripura," he said. The committee also lauded the decision to close down all transit camps in Tripura once the repatriation is completed.

It appealed to the people of Mizoram to welcome the repatriation and extend fullest support to the government.

However, it said it will continue to oppose any exercise of franchise outside the state.
