Tezpur, March 17: The family members of Siva Das, who was abducted by militants while escorting an army intelligence team, filed a complaint at Misamari police station today against the army’s failure to file an FIR on the incident.

Manoj Das, Siva’s elder brother, filed the complaint (registered by police as case 21/13) at Misamari police station against three jawans — R.R. Rewar, Kuldip Pamwar and K.P. Singh — of the intelligence department from the army base at Misamari.

The jawans accompanied the driver on two motorcycles.

Siva was abducted by suspected militants of the Songbijit faction of the NDFB from Aboi centre near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on March 12 during an intelligence operation.

Several district units of organisations like the All Assam Students Association, All Bodo Students’ Union, AATSA, Gorkha Students Union and Misamari Bazar Committee have vehemently criticised the role of jawans in the incident.Sonitpur police have begun combing operations, along with the army.

Manoj said they had repeatedly asked the intelligence team regarding the abduction. However, they had replied that Siva would return and that there was no reason to worry.

They also said there was no need to file an FIR. “They also said my brother drove a private vehicle, which was requisitioned by the army. Sonitpur superintendent of police Arabinda Kalita said the police were conducting search operations to rescue the driver in the dense forest near the inter-state border,” he added.

He said militants were active in the northern part of the district and that the Songbijit group of the NDFB is suspected to be behind the abduction.
