Dhubri, March 15: The New Moinaguri-Jogighopa New Railway Line Demand Committee is unhappy over the poor allocation of funds in the railway budget, which has delayed the New Moinaguri-Jogighopa project for more than one and a half decades.

A senior member of the committee, Tripatha Nath Chakraborty, said there was only assurance of completing the 35-km track from Gouripur to Bilasipara within next year in the budget.

“But there no mention of the rest of the work from Bilasipara to Jogighopa as well as fund sanction for Gouripur-Bilasipara track,” Chakraborty said.

He also said the railways had not obtained the no-objection certificate from the state forest department to carry the project from Bilasipara to Jogighopa as the railway track would be laid through forest land and this would again delay the project.

Reacting to the budget, a railway employees’ union alleged that there was nothing announced in the budget for Bongaigaon to fulfil its demand for coach factory, double BG line and expansion of electric train line up to Dibrugarh.

Resentment also prevailed among the railway employees unions in Bongaigaon following the non-implementation of the industrial park announced in the last year’s railway budget.

The secretary of Purbanchal Railway Karmi, Prafulla Sutradhar, said only the sanction for industrial park figured in the budget. The railway officials at Maligaon are ignorant about it, he added.

“We talked to railway officials in Maligaon some six months ago but they said they were not aware of any industrial park announced in the budget,” Sutradhar said.

He said this part of the state was deprived of development not only by the state government but also by the Centre.
