Kokrajhar, July 15: BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary today urged the Centre to start peace talks with NDFB’s Ranjan Daimary faction to bring about lasting peace in the region.

Addressing an emergent meeting of the Bodo National Conference (BNC) at Barama in Baksa today, Mohilary, who is also the BNC chairman, expressed pleasure over Daimary’s willingness to take part in peace talks. He said the government should allow him to do so with dignity, as has been done with Ulfa leaders.

He added that the BNC was for early peace talks.

Mohilary said security forces should stop killing innocent civilians in the name of anti-insurgency operations “because the Ranjan Daimary faction of NDFB is under a suspension of operations agreement with the government while another faction is under a ceasefire agreement”.

BNC conveners Anjali Daimari, Bisweswar Basumatary and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary also attended the meeting.
