Student faces rape slur

A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a Class X student at American Colony under Jalukbari police station on Sunday night.

The accused, 17-year-old Sanjib Dey, and his family members are currently absconding. Sanjib is a student of Vidya Mandir High School.

Liquor drive

The members of Basistha Anchalik Unnanyan Samiti are carrying out a drive against sale of illicit liquor at Basistha and Beltola localities. Till Tuesday, the members destroyed 30 litres of illicit liquor.

Solar eclipse

A partial solar eclipse will be visible in the city on March 29. The eclipse will continue from 4.51 pm to 5.25 pm, said a release issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre.

Bihu function

The East Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan has decided to rope in artistes from Sikkim and Punjab for the three-day Rongali Bihu festival to be organised at Assam Engineering Institute playground.

Two held

Police on Tuesday arrested two persons, including a woman, from Last Gate on charges of duping job seekers by promising work in a private bank in lieu of Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000. The accused have been identified as Mousumi Gogoi and Pranab Dutta.

Annual day

The annual day of Asam Sahitya Sabha?s Ganeshguri branch was celebrated on Monday. A cultural procession was taken out on the occasion.

Cardiologists

A team of five heart specialists from different leading hospitals in the country is arriving in the city on March 25. They will participate in a workshop being organised by GNRC Hospital.

Eye camp

Rupkonwar Jyoti Sangha, in association with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, recently conducted a free eye check-up camp at Maligaon.
