Guwahati: Miss Japan 2016 Priyanka Yoshikawa said on Thursday that she will visit Kaziranga and Manas national parks to enrich her knowledge of nature and elephants.
Priyanka, 23, who is the brand ambassador of Balipara Foundation, is in the city to take part in the Eastern Himalayas Naturenomics Forum. The event is being organised by the foundation on Thursday and Friday.
Priyanka, an elephant trainer involved in conservation, told The Telegraph that she has already fallen in love with Assam's scenic beauty. "I haven't got the opportunity to travel to other places till now. But I became aware of its greenery on the way to the hotel from the airport," she said. This is her first visit to Assam.
Recollecting her memories as a child, she said: "Nature has always been a part of me. As a child I wanted to have an elephant as a pet rather than a dog or a cat. Elephants don't scare me. They taught me about coexistence. People can learn from elephants. They don't hurt or harm without reason. People should find way to live together rather than shying away in the name of development."
She has undergone mahout training in Japan. "During my course, I found that some mahouts don't treat elephants well which is the saddest part," she said.
