Garo hills candidates file papers

Thirty-three candidates filed their nomination papers in Garo hills on Monday of which West Garo Hills had the largest number of 13 candidates. Seven candidates each filed their papers in North Garo Hills and East Garo Hills while three each filed in South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills .

Tura: Thirty-three candidates filed their nomination papers in Garo hills on Monday of which West Garo Hills had the largest number of 13 candidates. Seven candidates each filed their papers in North Garo Hills and East Garo Hills while three each filed in South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills .

Prominent among the candidates who filed their nominations were Deborah C. Marak and James Pangsang K. Sangma. Both are seeking votes to retain their constituencies which they won in 2013.

Other prominent candidates who filed their papers were Brigady Marak, Marthon Sangma, Cherak Momin, Ismail Marak, Timothy D. Shira, Frankenstein W. Momin and Rightious Sangma.

In West Garo Hills, Mizanur Kazi Jimberth Goera Marak, Ferlin C.A. Sangma Utpal Arengh Kris Kabul A Sangma Nilkamal Sangma Sengkal A Sangma filed papers In East Garo Hills, besides Deborah, those who filed their nominations were Arun N. Marak, three Independent candidates Sujit Sangma, Walseng M. Sangma and Rapiush Ch. Sangma. for Rongjeng, with Mahamsing M Sangma (UDP) and Sengbat R Marak (Independent) for Williamnagar.

In North Garo Hills district, besides the heavyweights who filed nomination were Pongseng R. Marak and Manosh Marak.

In South Garo Hills, two young student leaders of the Garoland movement filed their papers together with Garo National Council chief Kalpana D. Sangma. Augus-tine R. Marak filed his nomination paper for Siju-Rongara while Nikman Ch. Marak filed his papers for the Baghmara seat. Others who filed their nominations in South West Garo Hills were Mafiara Sangma for Mahendraganj and Thiring M Sangma (Independent) for Salmanpara. The last two days are expected to witness a heavy rush as candidates will try to file nominations before the deadline.
