Guwahati/Bangalore, June 11: The son of a former cabinet minister of Assam was reportedly questioned by Bangalore police in connection with an alleged rape and death of a woman in the southern city.

According to local TV channels in Assam, the youth, along with a couple of his friends, were summoned to Sanjay Nagar police station today and questioned about the incident.

However, there has been no official confirmation.

Sources in Bangalore police said a few youths from the Northeast are being questioned over the death of a woman in Sanjay Nagar in north Bangalore.

While the body has been shifted to a local hospital for a post-mortem, the police are investigating possible circumstances under which the woman died.

Though rumours of rape were doing the rounds, none of the police officers The Telegraph spoke to could confirm anything.

"We have made some enquiries about a few youngsters from the Northeast," said a senior police officer-in-charge of the Sanjay Nagar zone.

"No arrest has been made so far," said the officer who did not want to be named.

Another officer said a complete picture would be available only after the questioning and the post-mortem report tomorrow.

He refused to disclose identities of those being questioned or that of the woman.
