FIR against NC Hills council member
An FIR was lodged against the executive member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council on Tuesday for kidnapping two forest officials of neighbouring Cachar district in south Assam.

Haflong: An FIR was lodged against the executive member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council on Tuesday for kidnapping two forest officials of neighbouring Cachar district in south Assam.
The FIR was lodged by a forest official of Bandarkhal sub-beat office, Ramendra Jidung, at Borkhola police station in Cachar district. It said Amendu Hojai alias Slaiding, an executive member of NC Hills Autonomous Council in Dima Hasao district entered Bandarkhal sub-beat office in Cachar district with five persons, including his personal security officer, around 4.38am on June 25 and asked the forest officials to hand over the office register and other files.
When the officials refused, Hojai and his men assaulted them, broke the lock of the office trunk and took all the files. They also took with them forest officials Subendu Daulagupu and Ramendra Jidung.
Hojai, who is in charge of the forest department in the council, then went to Dittockcherra forest beat office in Dima Hasao where he held Daulagupu and Jidung captive for hours. He later release them with the warning that they should not do any departmental work without his permission.
Bandarkhal is around 50km from Haflong town, the headquarters of Dima Hasao district, and is situated on the border of the two districts.
Hojai is a former militant of the now disbanded Dima Halam Daoga (DHD) and won the Harangajao seat in the 2013 council election.
He could not be contacted.
Forest officials said they have CCTV footage of Hojai and his henchmen entering Bandarkhal office, taking the files and forcefully taking the two officials with them. The evidence has been submitted to the police.
The police have registered a case, 167/18, under sections 353, 365, 506, 427 and 34 of the IPC. They said investigations are on.
