Dogs' day out at marathon
Guwahati: There will be a marathon, games, entertainment shows and a fashion show, like any event. It's the participants, however, who will steal the show with their wagging tails.
Dogs will have their own day out at the Indi Dogathon being organised here for the first time.
Rajdeep Deka's Marcom Wand is organising the event in association with AWE Entertainment of Bangalore at the Veterinary ground in Khanapara on February 18.
Assamese film actress and animal lover Barsha Rani Bishaya is the brand ambassador of the event.
The event was started in Bangalore in 2015 as The Bengaluru Dogathon - a walk for canines and their owners.
It includes a whole day of activities, games, interactive family and pet competitions, entertainment shows and music games. There will be agility and rest/cooling zones, leash-free areas, pet and vet talks, talks from experts on canine grooming and behaviour, brands showcasing new canine products, pet goodies, variety of local food products for canines and entertainment stalls as major attractions.
Deka said, "This is the first time we are organising this event here after two editions in Bangalore. It is an opportunity for dog lovers to take a day out for their dogs. We will take the event to Goa, Pune and Delhi after this."
Parikshit Das of AWE Entertainment said, "We started by organising a walk in the streets for dogs and their owners. This event in Guwahati will be like a picnic for dogs. There will be a musical chair competition and dress your dog contest, among others."
Bishaya said, "It is a unique and thoughtful initiative. I am an animal lover and have been keeping dogs since school days. Dogs can relieve all your tensions when you return home from work. It does not matter what breed of dog you keep. Even local ones are good."
The walk is related to a cause and Sangeeta Goswami's team from People For Animals will showcase their mission and work with stray dogs while raising funds at the venue.
Participants and visitors will be encouraged to sponsor dogs of the NGO.
A special feature will be the adoption zone. Industry experts like Pradyut Sharma will be delivering talks on dog grooming, health care and behavioural training.
A fashion show by registered canines and rescued mutts will wrap up the show.
