Rhino calf dies

Jorhat, July 4: A rhino calf, which was found abandoned on Tuesday, succumbed to its injuries at Salakati near Kaziranga National Park today. Yamuna, a rhino translocated from Centre for Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation near Kaziranga National Park to Manas National Park in 2007, gave birth to a calf yesterday. In another incident, a jawan of the Assam Forest Protection Battalion, Dandapani Sarmah, was attacked and injured by a rhino at Kaziranga National Park this evening.

Jorhat: Vishal Solanki on Thursday assumed charge as deputy commissioner of Jorhat district. He was the deputy commissioner of Morigaon.

Jorhat: The Jorhat unit of the Chutia Yuba Sanmilan has called a 12-hour Jorhat district bandh from 5am on Friday to protest against the attack on teenager Jhankar Saikia in Diphu on June 25. Jhankar passed away on Monday.
