Guwahati, April 28: Dabur India Ltd is setting up a Rs 250-crore plant in Assam, its first in the Northeast.

The company today informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that in order to meet the growing demand for its products, the board of the directors of the company in its meeting held today approved a capital expenditure of Rs 250 crore to establish a manufacturing plant in Sonitpur district that would be financed through internal accruals.

"The plant is likely to commence operations in 2017," the company said in a statement.

Sources said plans will now be firmed up on the capacity, the product mix and other issues. The company had acquired land in the Balipara area of the district.

A leading consumer goods company, Dabur had a turnover of Rs 7,806.40 crore in 2015.

It has 20 ultra-modern manufacturing units spread around the globe and its products marketed in over 100 countries.
