Agartala, Nov. 28: The observers of the state election commission have asked returning officers and senior election department officials to file FIRs if they come across any fake voter.

The returning officers have also been directed to file action taken reports to the commission showing compliance with its directives.

Dulal Das, returning officer of Sadar subdivision, has filed FIRs against two fake voters in Mohanpur Assembly constituency and two more against people who allegedly influenced the enumerators of the election department.

R.K. Srivastava, the commission’s observer for South Tripura, extensively toured Matabari, Killa and Kakrabon blocks of the district and directed the returning officer of Udaipur to file FIRs against four election department employees — Sukhlal Debnath, Bidyut Mazumder, Ratan Roy and Prantosh Dutta — for issuing double identity cards to several voters in Udaipur town and Bagma constituency.

Srivastava also held discussions with Congress leaders Pranjit Singha Roy and Debal Debroy and noted their objections.

The two Congress leaders furnished a list of 264 fake voters in Udaipur town. Srivastava is visiting Belonia and Sabroom subdivisions tomorrow. Similarly, the commission’s observer for Dhalai district, Asish Chakraborty, also visited the five constituencies under Ambassa subdivision and spoke to voters, election department officials and employees.

Chakraborty directed the returning officer of Ambassa to take special note of the allegations being made with specific data by Opposition Congress-INPT leaders.
