Cop station for cyber crimes

The Meghalaya government has finally notified the installation of a cyber crime police station (CCPS) following the rise in cyber criminals and Internet fraudsters.

Shillong, April 22: The Meghalaya government has finally notified the installation of a cyber crime police station (CCPS) following the rise in cyber criminals and Internet fraudsters.

In a notification issued recently, the police station will be under the cyber crime wing of the criminal investigation department (CID).

The CCPS will have statewide jurisdiction and will investigate cyber crimes and Internet-related crimes where digital devices such as mobile phones and computers are used to commit offences.

"As on date, in almost all the militancy-related cases registered in Meghalaya, the criminals have used digital devices such as mobiles, SIM cards bought from the black market and others to commit crimes. These crimes include sending extortion texts, criminal intimidation, extortion and abduction," Meghalaya inspector-general (law and order) G.H.P. Raju said.
