Chetia best in Nagaon district meet

Nagaon, Dec. 21: Nagaon Government Boys HS School became champions, clinching five gold and four silver medals, in the daylong Nagaon district inter-institutional sports meet at Nurul Amin Stadium here on Sunday.

Kampur HS School finished second with four gold, seven silver and four bronze.

Katahguri Junior College and Raha HS School shared the third position, bagging three gold, a silver and four bronze medals each.

Amarjit Chetia of the champion school became the best boy athlete, while Mafida Hazarika of Nagaon Government Girls HS School was adjudged best among the girls for her two gold medals (800m, 1500m). Chetia won gold in 100m, 200m and long jump.

Dharitri Goswami of Kampur HS School won two silver medals (discus and javelin).

AASU meet

Mangaldoi, Dec. 21: Vijay Sangha of Kharupetia registered a three-wicket win over Assam Friendship Club of Mangaldoi in the AASU-organised DMDD prize-money cricket meet here today.

Put in to bat, the Mangaldoi team was all out for 98 in 19.5 overs. In reply, Vijay Sangha reached 101 for seven in 19.3 overs. Tezpur XI will play Tezpur BB Club tomorrow.

HC line-up: A 17-member Gauhati High Court team left for Mumbai today for the all-India advocates? cricket meet from Friday.
