Goalpara: Golam Mostofa, a higher secondary first year student, who was missing from Sunday evening from his Oasis Academy Junior College hostel in Goalpara, has been rescued from Bengal's Alipurduar junction on Monday night.

"He was rescued by railway police when they found him lying in a semi-conscious state on his seat in Rajendra Express, a Guwahati-Rajasthan train," Mostofa's father Sayed Ali said.

Police said he might have been drugged.

Ali said when the police tried to rescue the boy, a Hindi-speaking family of a woman and two men stopped them, saying that Mostofa had stolen their belongings and they would take him to their native place in Katihar and hand him over to the police there.

At this, the police insisted the family come and file a complaint at Alipurduar junction. But under the pretext of it being late and a busy junction, the family disappeared from the spot.

The police later collected Mostofa's home address and informed his father.

Ali believes that the family had tried to traffick his son. "My son was probably drugged and kidnapped from Vishal Market in Goalpara where he had gone on Sunday evening alone from his hostel for shopping. That is the last place he can remember prior to the incident," Ali said.

Ali filed a missing person's report at Goalpara police station on Monday.

The police had assured him that Monday being a bandh, Mostofa would be located even if he was trafficked as he could not have been moved far.

Ali's family lives in Sedamari-Balapara village under Jogighopa police station in Bongaigaon district.
