Guwahati: Apeejay Tea has instituted the Factory Star Awards and Champion of the Season Award in its 15 factories across 17 tea estates.

The company says the Factory Star Awards have been instituted as it believes that a special recognition for those who bring competency to work is essential.

Razi Khan, director (sales and marketing), Apeejay Tea, said the garden's manufacturing facilities must meet its stringent food safety and quality management benchmarks.

"Each of our 15 factories will be recognising and rewarding those who exhibit exemplary standards of work ethics through integrity, punctuality, domain knowledge, highest standards of food safety, best manufacturing practices, implement training advice as well as welcome new joinees into the team. The Factory Star Awards will be given out seven times in each of the 15 factories during the current season and at the end of the season. The company will reward the best of the best in each factory with the Champion of the Season Award whose commitment to work and exemplary job skills will be celebrated along with their families," Khan said.

The first 15 factory stars were recently awarded across 15 factories of Apeejay Tea for excelling during the production period in June.

Uttam Baruah, who won Factory Star Award for Jaboka factory for June, said, "I want all my colleagues here to try and beat my performance in July."

Noren Karmakar, who won the Factory Star Award for June in Apeejay Tea's Khobong factory, said he never thought his effort would be rewarded and recognised in the way his company has done and that he would like to be a role model for other factory workers at Khobong.

The next award will be given out in August for the July period and so forth till December.

The Champion of the Season Award will be decided after the last Factory Star Awards are finalised and champion factory employees will be felicitated in a special ceremony along with their families.

Khan said the company adheres to personal hygiene procedures, food safety and health and safety in every step of the production to ensure that its gardens produce safe tea for customers.
