Aizawl retain league trophy

I-League debutants Aizawl FC retained the champion's trophy of the prestigious Mizoram Premier League season four beating Chanmari FC 3-0 in the final played at Lammual ground in Aizawl last night.

Silchar, Dec. 16: I-League debutants Aizawl FC retained the champion's trophy of the prestigious Mizoram Premier League season four beating Chanmari FC 3-0 in the final played at Lammual ground in Aizawl last night.

Aizawl# FC's Liberian forwardAlfred Kemah Jaryan gave his team an early lead in 27thminute.After a throw-in by Chanmari FC's Rozama, Albert Zohmingmawia dashed past two defenders and broke clear to drive a perfectly paced low cross for Alfred to drive home from a close range.

Alfred was in his best form as he increased the lead to 2-0 in the 33rdminute. Alfred took full advantage of a weak back pass by Chanmari FC's Rinchanna, raced clear and delivered a low shot into the corner of the goal.

Chanmari FC tried their best to pull a goal back, but Aizawl FC's goalkeeper, Poirei, pulled off a strong save from close range just a few minutes before the first half.

Aizawl FC's Spanish head coachManuel Retamero Frailefielded his trusted midfield trio - Bta, Msa and Yuta, who showed excellent display of football. At the front, centre-forward Alfred teamed up with Albert on the right and Brandon on the left forward positions, forming the vanguard of Aizawl FC's attack.

In the 47thminute, Aizawl FC's captain Zuala lobbed the ball into the box. Alfred connected the ball with his head but it hit the goalpost. However, the rebound ball was easy enough for the onrushing Brandon to head home, making the scoreline 3-0. Aizawl FC continued to dominate the game, while Chanmari FC were on the defensive.

Aizawl FC are the first team to win the Mizoram Premier League for two consecutive years.
