3 Assam films for Goa fest

Guwahati, Oct. 19: Three films from Assam have been selected for screening at the 45th International Film Festival of India, 2014, to be held in Goa next month.

Hemanta Kumar Das’s feature film Othello, Anisha Sarma-directed short film A Dream Never Dies and Utpal Borpujari-directed documentary Songs of Blue Hills are the three films that have been selected for the festival.

Made under the banner of M/s Artha Films, Othello is the first production of Manabendra Adhikary. The cast includes Arun Nath, Runu Devi, Arup Baishya and Jupitara Bhuyan. Its screenplay is by Ranjit Kumar Sarma and background score is by Tarali Sarma.

Othello has already been awarded the Best Screenplay Award in Indian Cine Film Festival, Mumbai, and selected in Indian Showcase by Jagran Film Festival. It has also been invited to other national and international festivals.


Customs officials seized 2.9kg opium from three persons at Fancy Bazar here today. The accused were identified as Md Sahnur Ali, Md. Mamtul Ali and Md Tariful Hussain. The market value of the seized contraband is Rs 3.77 lakh.
