2nd phase work to begin soon
Guwahati: The Kamrup (metro) district administration will start work on the second phase of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update from Friday.
Deputy commissioner M. Angamuthu said on Wednesday, "Altogether 281 district magistrate investigation teams have been formed to carry out house-to-house verification for people whose documents had some discrepancies or have not received the verification result. Applicants who stay outside Assam and were unable to send their documents on time will be verified after the papers reach here. One or two members of a family whose names are missing from the first draft need not worry as the verification will be completed in this phase."
Angamuthu said the applicants with discrepancies in their names can inform the local registrar of citizens' registration in seva kendras. A toll-free number, 1070, has been set up in the DC's office where applicants can call between 8am and 9pm.
Jorhat deputy commissioner Virendra Mittal asked applicants whose names were wrongly spelt or have incorrect addresses can approach respective seva kendras.
