2 arrested for cheating trader

Guwahati: Crime branch officers arrested two persons from a resort in Nagaon district in the wee hours of Thursday for defrauding a Haryana-based businessman of Rs 41 lakh.
Rishiraj Kaundinya and Jayanta Nath, both from Tezpur, were arrested from Camp Rhino resort in Kuthori around 2am on the basis of a complaint filed by Pravin Solanki, who alleged that the duo had taken Rs 41 lakh to all-ot work of panchayat and ru-ral development department.
"The resort management said the two checked in on Wednesday. We seized passports from them which they would have probably used to escape abroad. Several credit and debit cards were also seized," additional deputy commissioner of police (crime) Rosie Kalita, who led the operation, said.
Police said Rishiraj claimed he was an official of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council.
A married woman and a 20-year-old girl were found with the two accused.
The police said the women had been called from Guwahati in the name of buying insurance policies and allegedly raped. The police said more persons could be involved in the crime.
Nine mobile phones, 15 SIM cards and Rs 25,000 were recovered from Rishiraj.
They were produced in court here on Thursday and sent to judicial custody.
