Walkie-talkie edge for RMC team
Ranchi: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to purchase 15 walkie-talkies for its enforcement team.
The RMC will be the first civic body in Jharkhand to introduce this facility.
Confirming the development, assistant executive officer of RMC Ram Krishna Kumar said the civic body had floated a tender on Wednesday.
"Bids will be opened on April 17. The selected bidders will have to undergo technical and financial scrutiny after which the purchase will be made. RMC had been planning to purchase walkie-talkies for its enforcement team for the last one year. It has been found that despite having mobile phones, enforcement officers often find it difficult to contact other teams for reinforcement and additional support because of network problem and congestion," Kumar said.
The idea, which was floated by former RMC commissioner Prashant Kumar, was finalised a week back by serving RMC commissioner Shantanu Kumar Agrahari.
However, unlike the elaborate communication apparatus used by security forces for the operation of walkie-talkies, RMC will not have to install any separate system.
"The enforcement team will be able to communicate with other officials over walkie-talkies within a radius of 1km. We don't need to install any tower. This will be a frequency-based operation. The bidder who will be selected for the supply of the gadgets will also have to provide technical assistance," an official of the RMC's technical cell said, adding that the civic body wants walkie-talkies that weigh less than 400gm and can can also be used to send text messages as well.
In the last one year, the responsibility of the enforcement teams has grown manifold.
Last year, RMC gave them special uniform akin to police personnel and a badge for easy identification.
