Jamshedpur: Union secretary of food and public distribution Ravi Kant said on Wednesday that under no circumstances should PDS beneficiaries be deprived of food grains because of network or Aadhaar glitches, his directive echoing that of Governor Droupadi Murmu who had summoned the state food secretary on Tuesday over reports of alleged hunger deaths in Jharkhand.

Kant, who chose East Singhbhum district for a random inspection of storage and distribution of food grains and implementation of National Food Security Act-2013, spent over four hours in Jamshedpur on Wednesday, visiting godowns and holding a review meeting with the district administration.

He had met state food secretary Amitabh Kaushal in Ranchi on Tuesday. "We discussed network issues at certain places that were causing problems in authentication of identity of beneficiaries at electronic point of sale (e-PoS) machines," he said.
