Ranchi: Swachh Survekshan 2018 assessment for the capital, under Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), began on Thursday as part of the pan-India cleanliness survey.

On Day One, a two-member central assessment team interacted with RMC officials to document work done by the civic body in the last one year across various sectors.

"The survey team was busy profiling the city today (Thursday)," RMC public relations officer Naresh Kumar Sinha said, adding two more days were left.

"Today (Thursday), they checked all we had done in the past one year, existing infrastructure and civic amenities. We are submitting documents of every job done. Based on Ranchi's city profile prepared by us, they will start random physical inspection," he explained. "But, documentation can continue on Friday as the scope of work is vast, from amenities at bus stands to availability of public toilets, dustbins, among others."

Giving an instance, he said in the city profile, RMC spoke of two bus stands along with details, locations, infrastructure available there and so on.

"The team can choose to visit any. We also gave them details of declared commercial areas in the capital and facilities there. Talking about modular toilets, we have set up over 80 across the city and have geo-tagged them. Proofs of the jobs have been submitted," he said.

The survey is scheduled to end on Sunday but RMC officials said it might extend. "Last year, it went on for seven days and group of surveyors came in phases. We don't know if the same two-member team from Karvy Consultancy will finish all formalities or another batch will come in a day or two for field inspections. The swachh team is directly guided by Union ministry officials (urban development ministry in Delhi) and we are only informed in the last moment," said an official of RMC.

This year, 27 urban local bodies of the state are taking part in Swachh Survekshan 2018, which began all over India on January 4. So far, assessments are over in Deoghar, Khunti, Bokaro, East Singhbhum (Jugsalai and Chakulia), Garhwa, Koderma, Pakur, Sahebganj, Chatra, Dumka, Palamau, among others. Assessment in Hazaribagh, Dhanbad and Adityapur will begin from February 12.
