Steel city archer trio to don India colours

Jharkhand archers Jayanta Talukdar, Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat found slots in the eight-member (men and women) Indian team for the 20th Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka from November 25 to 30.

Jamshedpur/Dhanbad: Jharkhand archers Jayanta Talukdar, Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat found slots in the eight-member (men and women) Indian team for the 20th Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka from November 25 to 30.

All three are from Jamshedpur. Archery Association of India on Sunday announced the national squad after end of the two-day selection trials at JRD sports complex here.

Ankita, a Tata Archery Academy cadet, claimed the mixed recurve gold medal pairing up with Services archer N. Jemson Singh at the World Youth Archery Championship at Rosario, Argentina, earlier this month.

Olympians Jayanta and Deepika had topped the score tables on the opening day of the trials on Saturday to make it to the Indian team.

Volleyball

DAV-Alkusa beat Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial School-Digwadih 25-14, 25-14 in the first match of the second day of the ongoing three-day Jharkhand State Volleyball Championship organised by School Sports Promotion Foundation at Youth Club grounds in Sindri on Sunday.

In some of the other volleyball matches, KV-Sindaha beat KV-Simdega 25-19, 22-25 and 15-10, Lions Public School-Sindri outplayed DAV Moondih 25-22, 27-25, KV-Ramgarh defeated De Nobili School 25-10, 25-11, Jeetpur Academy defeated ISL-Sudamdih 25-15, 25-17, DAV Alkusa defeated DAV Sijua 25-22, 19-25 and 15-13, DAV Sijua trounced Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial School-Digwadih 25-5, 25-5, SVM-Sindri beat DAV-Moonidih 25-23, 23-25 and 15-13.
