Jamshedpur: New East Singhbhum SSP Anoop Birtharay on Friday sought to speed up the probe into the sensational Sahara City rape case by speaking to the 17-year-old victim, her mother and employer Nanak Chandra Seth.
The SSP on Friday spoke to the trio at his office for a first-hand account of the victim who had claimed that she had been raped by several men, including a cop, for two years during her stay at businessman Nanak's house as a domestic help.
The new SSP also replaced the investigating officer of the case, R. Khan, with OC Arun Kumar Mahatha late on Thursday night.
"It's a serious case. A four-member team, which is probing it, will submit a report on Saturday. We will determine the line of action only after getting the report," Birtharay told The Telegraph.
The SSP said a medical examination would be conducted at MGM Medical College & Hospital to determine the age of the victim.
"The girl has no Aadhaar card or any other document to verify her age. We will, therefore, get her age verified scientifically at the medical college hospital," the senior police officer said, suggesting that she may not be a minor.
Birthray also informed that on Nanak's request, two bodyguards had been assigned to him.
He said the policeman, who had allegedly raped the girl, would be arrested if any evidence was found against him.
The girl's Potka-based mother had on January 19 lodged a rape FIR in Mango thana against Indrapal Singh Saini, Shiv Kumar Mahto and Santosh Mahto. They allegedly used a video clip of the assault to blackmail her. As she is a minor, the case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Later the victim had revealed that MGM thana OC had raped her at the police station. She had also accused the DSP of molesting her. Police have so far arrested only Saini.
