Many schools in Ranchi have decided to reopen on Tuesday despite a district administration diktat to extend vacations till June 23, after pre-monsoon showers considerably lowered temperatures.
The district administration directive had been issued on Saturday keeping in mind the extreme heat prevailing at the time.
With the weather improving, schools like St Thomas, Kairali, Oxford Public School, Bishop School and DAV group of schools reopened on Monday itself.
Speaking to The Telegraph, principal of Kairali School Rajan Verghese said there was little point in extending vacations when the weather was no longer unbearable.
Verghese added that they do not plan to skip any classes since it’s the beginning of a new academic session. “We would have followed the DC’s order and kept our school closed till June 23, had the extreme weather conditions prevailed,” he clarified.
M.K. Sinha, principal of DAV-Kapil Dev too said they will continue to hold classes after reopening the school on Monday. Echoing Sinha’s view, principal of Oxford Public School C.J. Jacob said although they opened the school for senior sections (Classes VI-X) from Monday, the junior section would reopen on Wednesday as the weather had improved.
Others like St Xavier’s School, Delhi Public School and St Mary’s School have decided to open from Tuesday.
Parents and students expressed happiness over the developments.
