The much-touted mega cleanliness drive of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) began on Wednesday with deputy commissioner Prashant Kumar flagging off Jagrukta Rath or an awareness chariot from New Town Hall.
Altogether five such raths will visit all the 55 wards of the district from September 11 to 24 to highlight the importance of cleanliness and seek co-operation of residents.
Besides, the civic body has roped in two local NGOs — Kala Niketan and Shivalaya Vikash Sangh — to stage street plays to spread awareness. Apart from this, the corporation will put up 20 banners at major squares like Shramik Chowk, Randhir Verma Chowk and Birsa Munda Chowk.
Earlier, Kumar participated in a workshop and addressed all the 55 ward councillors of Dhanbad.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said that senior officials of the district would strictly monitor the drive.
The deputy commissioner added that every household must pay the mandatory “use charges”. “It will be a nominal amount. But, anyone coming under the purview of the civic body must pay up,” he added.
Deputy CEO of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation Siddharth Shankar Chaudhary said, “The entire resource of the civic body will be used to carry out the cleanliness work. The drive will continue even after Durga Puja.”
Apart from Kumar and Chaudhury, chief executive officer of DMC Ashok Kumar Banka, deputy mayor Niraj Singh, Mada MD Ravindra Singh were also present on the occasion.
