New Delhi, April 10: Member of Parliament and National Advisory Committee member Ram Dayal Munda, who was admitted to AIIMS on April 6, has been diagnosed with cancer in the prostate gland, urinary bladder and the bones.
His niece Meenakshi Munda said the cancer was in an advanced stage and they were awaiting medical reports to decide whether he should be taken to the US for treatment.
But sources close to the family hinted that the costs of treatment abroad may be too high for his family to afford.
Wearing his trademark thick khadi kurta, Munda lay asleep when The Telegraph visited his spartan ward at AIIMS. He is being also looked after by his son Gunjal who admitted that the 72-year-old leader was in “a bit of pain.”
On the way out, a ward boy said he found it hard to believe that Munda was an MP because of his simple manner. “There’s been a long line of people to meet him,” he said.
Munda. a nominated member of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha, has for long been advocating talks with Maoists and trying to get the rebels and government representatives on a common platform.
As early as March 30, he had helped organise an Adivasi Mahasabha, which was also attended by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and Union tribal affairs minister Kantilal Bhuria.
