Rain alert in isolated pockets

Jamshedpur: Several districts in the north-western parts of Jharkhand on Thursday experienced light rain and thundershower due to the impact of a cyclonic circulation hovering over neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.

Reports of light rain accompanied by lightning and thunder poured in from Gumla, Simdega, Lohardaga, Latehar and Garhwa. Daltonganj and few other places in Palamau witnessed cloud formation and rainfall in traces.

Weathermen attributed the sudden shift in weather condition to the cyclonic circulation coupled with strong westerly winds.

"Two weather systems effected the north-western parts of Jharkhand today (Thursday). The cyclonic circulation over eastern Madhya Pradesh and strong westerly winds resulted in the formation of convective clouds," said a duty officer at Ranchi Meteorological Centre, adding that skies would clear up in coming days.

According to senior Met official in Ranchi, S.C. Mandal, satellite pictures and wind chart analysis suggested the formation of an atmospheric circulation over central India.

Ranchi and Khunti districts on Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of around 31°C while the maximum reading in Jamshedpur hovered around 34°C.

On Wednesday, the steel city recorded a maximum reading of 35.1°C while Daltonganj notched 31°C on Thursday against Wednesday's 33°C.

Weathermen at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Calcutta said the weather was experiencing a transition phase. "The satellite image showed formation of clouds over Jharkhand with thundershowers in isolated areas," said a duty officer.
