Portal makes a hit debut
Ranchi: The much-awaited Chancellor Portal, which aims to connect students, colleges and universities to make administration of higher education seamless and transparent, went live from Wednesday.
Till the filing of this report at 4.30pm, 237 students had registered themselves at www.jharkhanduniversities.nic.in.
Sanjay Singh, an official handling the portal, said more than 60 per cent were from Ranchi and the rest from Dhanbad, Palamau and Chatra, among others. "The numbers will swell soon because one can register 24/7," he said.
Explaining the process, Singh said students who had cleared their Class XII boards could sign up at the portal with their personal details. "After Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) publishes results in the first week of June, we shall allow registered users to choose subjects. All relevant details such as cut-offs at various colleges under eight universities and their individual facilities will be uploaded," he said.
"Except one, all varsities have uploaded details of their constituent colleges. Details of affiliated colleges haven't yet been uploaded because each varsity has to decide if it wants their admission through the portal too. If yes, each varsity will have to send a consent letter to the higher education department," Singh explained
The official said the whole tuition fee of the first candidate who had joined the portal on Wednesday would be waived. Asked who the lucky student was, he said a committee would be formed by the higher education department to finalise the same. "Multiple candidates are logging in from different parts of the state. After scrutiny and the whole admission process, the name will be announced," he added.
Swati Kumari, who appeared for her intermediate this year, said she wanted to try the portal. "We are told that offline admissions to colleges will soon be passé. So, it's better to change with the times. I haven't decided which college to take admission in, but Ranchi Women's College is on my list of preferences. All depends on how I score," she said.
