If you are waiting eagerly for pink autos with women drivers on the streets of Ranchi, wait till next week.
Six pink autos will now hit the roads either on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Bose on January 23 or on Republic Day.
The launch of the much-touted pink three-wheelers, which were supposed to start plying from December 15, 2013, has been delayed for more than a month.
Both cold cash and official compulsions put the brakes on this endeavour.
The bank is yet to release the loan amount to Kadru-based realty firm Rajmani Property Pvt. Limited, which bought the autos from Pune-based TVS Motor Company.
And, the 20 women drivers, who have been jointly trained by the realty firm and Jharkhand Pradesh Diesel Auto Chalak Sangh, are yet to get their licences.
Sanjay Sahu, the manager of Rajmani Property, which conceived the plan as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, said he would meet SP (traffic) Rajeev Ranjan in a couple of days to seek help to obtain licences.
“We hope to start the auto service either from January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, or January 26,” said Sahu.
Of the first fleet of six autos, three have arrived, but are being painted. The rest will reach Ranchi by January 20.
The petrol-driven autos will, however, not ply on a fixed route. A woman driver can take the vehicle anywhere.
“After these six autos, another four will be procured. Depending on response, as many as 50 pink autos will ply in Ranchi in the long run. Our union will give full cooperation to this project,” Jharkhand Pradesh Diesel Autochalak Mahasangh president Dinesh Soni said.
