Jamshedpur: State's lone underwater diver Mazharul Bari is all set to enhance his scuba diving skills.

Come October, Bari will fly to Phuket in Thailand to attend a 10-day scuba training session.

"There are three training units of Professional Association for Diving Instructors (PADI) in Phuket. I am attending a 10-day training session under one of the units. I am looking forward to the underwater stint," the Sakchi resident said.

Bari, who works at the Tata Steel security wing and is recognised for his rescue operations across the city and its surrounding areas, said working under experienced professional divers in Phuket would help him in the long run. "Training at Phuket will help me polish my rescue operations in rivers and dams," he added.

Bari will undergo a training for 10 days at one of the PADI centres. "I am planning to write to Tata Steel to extend help in taking care of my expenses in Phuket. The company has helped me earlier and am sure they won't refuse me this time," the 47-year-old said.

The advanced course at PADI is designed for divers who have been certified for their basic scuba skills and hold proper diver qualifications or equivalent.

The training session in Phuket comprises five dives. The deep dive (30 metre) and the navigation dive are mandatory for all. The remaining three can be chosen from an array of options including wreck diving, drift diving, peak performance buoyancy, night diving, underwater photography, underwater naturalist, boat diving, multi-level diving and recovery diving.
