Giridih, Oct. 28: The buzz in the political circle here is that Giridih Proper MLA Munna Lal will not be getting a JMM ticket in this Assembly elections as the party is not happy with him. In fact, the JMM has hinted at fielding a new face from the seat.

Lal contested the Assembly elections for the first time in 2005 on a JMM ticket and had surprised all by defeating heavyweights such as former minister Chandra Mohan Prasad and Nirbhay Sahabadi.

However, the industrialist-turned-politician’s relation with the district unit of the JMM started souring over the days. Lal did not attend a single JMM meeting and even did not meet party chief Shibu Soren during his visits to Giridih. Recently, he had come into news when the income tax department conducted on his companies for tax evasion.

The fact that Soren is not pleased with Lal’s performance was made clear by the former at a party rally at Pirtand in Giridih Proper on Sunday. Not only Soren, senior leader Suraj Mandal also criticised Lal.

Without taking any name, Lal had said: “We had given a ticket to an industrialist in the last election, who went on to amass a huge property worth Rs 12 crore. And now, he will come to you for votes as an Independent.”

Soren too said:“Your MLA will appear before you as an independent candidate, but it will be wise not to vote for him,” the JMM chief said.

“We are not sure who will get the ticket in Giridih Proper, but Lal is not going to get it,” said district president of JMM Sudipt Kumar Sonu. Insiders, however, said that they did not want to make an issue so that Lal seized the opportunity to garner sympathy.

But the maverick leader that he is, Lal seemed unperturbed. “I am not going to fight on JMM or any other party’s ticket as all are same. People will vote for me as an Independent, else I will accept defeat.”
